The Delaware Veterinary Medical Association is pleased to offer veterinary students the opportunity to apply for 3 scholarships during the 2024/2025 academic year. Please choose the scholarships from the list below for which you are applying. You are eligible to apply for all scholarships using this one form.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 31, 2025
Co-sponsored by Merck Animal Health, this $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a veterinary student in their second, third or fourth year of veterinary school. DVMA has established this scholarship for veterinary medical students from Delaware to assure the continuation of expert animal care and the scientific advancement of veterinary medicine.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
1. Student must be a Delaware resident as defined by at least one of the following criteria: (a) Graduate of a Delaware high school, (b) Resident of Delaware for at least three years, and/or (c) Permanent mailing address in Delaware.
2. Student must have a grade point average of at least 2.5 to apply.
3. Scholarship is open to veterinary students having completed their first, second, or third year of veterinary school.
4. Previous recipients may apply; however, first preference will be given to new recipients.
Dr. Craig A. Stonesifer graduated from University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine in 1968. After working in the Annapolis, Maryland area, he and Dr. William F. Moffett established Brenford Animal Hospital in Dover, Delaware in 1974. Over the years until his retirement in 2022, Dr. Stonesifer exemplified the standard of excellence in veterinary medicine and surgery, supporting his partners and associates intellectually and emotionally, mentoring and shepherding the doctors and staff. Because of his guidance, Brenford Animal Hospital has established this $2,500 scholarship for a veterinary student in perpetuity to honor his contributions to veterinary medicine and surgery in our state.

DVMA is proud to offer the annual DEI Scholarship, co-sponsored by Governors Avenue Animal Hospital/NVA, for one veterinary student. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who has completed at least their first year of veterinary school. DVMA has established this scholarship for students in Delaware who have advanced diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in their school and/or their community.

1. Student must be a Delaware resident as defined by at least one of the following criteria: (a) Graduate of a Delaware high school, (b) Resident of Delaware for at least three years, and/or (c) Permanent mailing address in Delaware.
